Installation Instructions:

  1. Create a new subdirectory called VirusScan in Merak's main program directory (C:\Program Files\Merak\VirusScan\).
  2. Download the latest McAfee VirusScan SuperDAT file from http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security_updates/dat.asp?region=us&segment=smb to a temporary directory.
  3. Extract all files in the SuperDAT file: SDAT5??? -E
  4. Copy these files from the temporary directory to the new VirusScan directory (C:\Program Files\Merak\VirusScan\):
    SCAN.DAT
    INTERNET.DAT
    NAMES.DAT
    CLEAN.DAT
    MESSAGES.DAT
    MCSCAN32.DLL
    LICENSE.DAT
    SCAN.EXE
    AVVCLEAN.DAT
    AVVNAMES.DAT
    AVVSCAN.DAT

  5. Download the file http://download.icewarp.es/unsupportedtools/mcafee_update_v3.zip .
  6. Extract all files to "C:\Program Files\Merak\VirusScan\Update\"
  7. Configure the anti-virus module in Merak:
    Virus Scan Application: VIRUSSCAN\SCAN.EXE
    Parameters: %S /ALL /SUB /NOMEM /NOBOOT /NOBEEP /UNZIP /MIME /ANALYZE /PROGRAM /NOEXPIRE
    Return values: 13

    The option "File deleted checking" must not be used. All other options depend on your needs/preferences.

    Note: Starting from Merak 5.x you have to configure McAfee VirusScan as "External Antivirus".

DAT Update Instructions:

Just run "C:\Program Files\Merak\VirusScan\Update\update.cmd" each week to update the DAT files (you can easily schedule the task in Windows so it
is done automatically). Note that this batch file does also update the McAfee VirusScan engine.

McAfee VirusScan Error Codes Description:

0 No errors occurred; the scanner found no viruses
1 File access error. This could mean that your computer is using a system file or another file it refused to permit access to
2 Data file integrity check failed
3 Disk access error
4 Error while reading output from AF
5 Insufficient memory
5 A general problem
7 Error reading internal message MCAFEE.MSG
8 Could not find a data file
9 Incompatible options in command line
10 The scanner found a virus in memory
11 Internal program error
12 Missing or corrupted CLEAN.DAT file
13 The scanner found one or more viruses or hostile objects
14 .DAT file out of date
15 The scanner failed its self-check failed; it might be infected or damaged
16 Drive or file access problem
17 17 - Scan target not specified
18 Validated file modified
19 One or more viruses found, all cleaned
20 The /FREQUENCY command option prevented the scanner from proceeding
100 A DOS problem occurred
102 The user quit via the ESC-X, ^C or Exit key combinations. You can disable this capability by running the scanner with the /NOBREAK command-line option.
